The first gully north of Coominya at Logan Creek, just south of Cooragook Station, was always the most challenging of the BVRT gullies. A steep concrete ramp down to sandstone blocks to cross the creek, then a steep and often loose gravel track up the other side that twisted under the old bridge was the scene of quite a few accidents. The old bridge was quite photogenic but the sandstone blocks were a bit of a challenge.
Roll on to June 2024 and we have a beautiful new bridge to span the crossing. The bridge building team in Roadtek, the construction arm of the Queensland Dept of Transport an Main Roads has excelled themselves. The bridge has been completed reconstructed with new timbers from the original plans. Whist a few of the hard core cyclists who used to enjoy the challenge of negotiating the creek crossing may grumble a bit, the majority of users will welcome the beautiful new bridge.
